Day of Code is Back - Bigger, Bolder, and With More Robots!

October 15, 2025

Mark your calendars: Thursday, November 20, 2025. Day of Code is landing on the California School for the Blind (CSB) campus, and this year we're turning up the energy with more robots, more maker space challenges, and more chances to meet new friends from near and far.

Confession time: before joining CSB, I thought "coding" belonged in some far-off galaxy—a language for tech geniuses, not itinerant teachers of students with visual impairments (TVIs) like me. Fast-forward one student conversation, one Day of Code, and one lightbulb moment later: I realized coding isn't abstract at all. It's the engine behind everything in our students' backpacks, including screen readers, magnifiers, braille displays, and even AI.

Here's the magic: when students understand how their tools work, they gain the vocabulary to advocate. Suddenly, they can explain why a button in their science program is unlabeled, or why a magnified website looks like scrambled eggs. They're not just using tech, they're troubleshooting, problem-solving, and speaking the language of accessibility.

So what can you expect at Day of Code? For students: robots, first websites, industry leaders, hands-on problem solving, and a whole lot of fun. For TVIs: lesson ideas, science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) adaptation strategies, collaborative energy, and a perspective shift that coding isn't "out of reach," it's everywhere.

Low stress. High fun. Big impact. That's Day of Code.
