Cerebral/Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI) is the leading cause of visual impairment in children in the United States and is caused by damage to the visual pathways or visual processing centers of the brain. Unlike ocular visual impairments, CVI is neurological in origin and presents a wide range of visual behaviors that can vary significantly from one individual to another. Because of its complexity and individualized nature, supporting students with CVI requires a deep understanding of their unique visual profiles and thoughtful, targeted educational strategies.
