About
Code is what makes your computer speak, braille pop-up, the internet search, and videos stream. So much of our world is becoming computerized and we are depending on bright young people to understand code so that they can engage with the products and companies that currently exist and the ones that are yet to be dreamed of. Our world needs blind and low vision students to become programmers so they can incorporate and expect accessible code in all areas of technology. We need students to learn code now so they can interact with and do jobs that are interconnected with hardware and software applications that are based on coding. We need students to be introduced to coding so they are aware that it is an accessible, challenging, fun, fulfilling, and useful way to contribute to society.
The California School for the Blind (CSB) and the American Printing House for the Blind (APH)
are connecting students, parents, and teachers with professionals in the coding industry to answer some of the questions students have about coding and coding careers. Join us to learn about careers in coding and hear from professionals in multiple panels. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage directly with panelists in a question and answer session at the end of the symposium.
Multiple scholarships sponsored by our industry leaders Vispero, and APH will be available for attendees to apply to in advance. Get your keyboards and word processors ready as you write an essay to compete for an amazing opportunity to receive a significant gift towards products to help you realize your coding and technology dreams. The California School for the Blind Education Foundation has contributed money to the scholarship winners to sweeten the pot with an Amazon gift card! Vispero will also be donating an annual software license to JAWS, ZoomText, or Fusion for any student who attends the symposium.
The agenda includes inspirational keynote speakers, a series of informative presentations, various panels focused on different aspects of coding and coding careers, and Q&A sessions. Be sure to check out the 4-day schedule, which has been created to accommodate as many attendees nation-wide as possible. We recognize that students are active in classes and other commitments and might not be able to attend all of the symposium sessions. The schedule was designed so that you can attend any or all of the sessions.
Co-hosts CSB and APH have planned a stellar lineup of some of the biggest names in the world of coding. So, register today!
