September 22, 2025
The California School for the Blind proudly celebrates the outstanding contribution of May Nguyen, MS, LEP, NCSP, who presented at the 2025 National Braille Challenge Finals in Los Angeles.

May Nguyen, MS, LEP, NCSP
May led a featured parent workshop titled "Supporting Mental Wellbeing: Guidance for Parents of Blind, Low Vision, and Deafblind Students." This well-attended session provided families with research-based insights and hands-on strategies for fostering emotional wellness at home.
Through her engaging presentation, May guided parents and caregivers to:
- Understand the connection between sensory loss and mental health.
- Explore practical strategies for building resilience and self-determination in youth.
- Promote mental wellbeing through social engagement, physical activity, healthy routines, mindfulness, and self-advocacy.
The session also highlighted the importance of relationship-building and community connection, encouraging families to leverage resources like short-term programs, summer camps, and peer networks to strengthen their child's emotional health.
To extend support beyond the conference, May created a comprehensive handout and resource guide featuring activity ideas, mindfulness exercises, and community connections for blind, low vision, and deafblind youth.
