This well-attended workshop offered caregivers valuable insights into the connection between sensory loss and mental health, focusing on practical, family-centered strategies to nurture emotional wellness at home. Following a brief overview of relevant research, May shared tools and techniques designed to strengthen resilience, promote connection, and build self-determination in youth. Her presentation highlighted the importance of fostering positive mental health through social engagement, physical activity, healthy routines, and mindfulness, specifically tailored to the experiences of students with blindness, low vision, and deafblindness.

To further support families, May provided a downloadable handout full of activity ideas and guidance that parents and educators can begin using right away.
