New Supplemental Short Course Opportunities at the
Starting in the 2007-2008 school year, the California School for the Blind will be offering short courses that emphasize the Expanded Core Curriculum for Students with Visual Impairments. Some of the subject matter to be included are activities of daily living, abacus skills and Nemeth code, social skills, handwriting/signature, organization skills, study skills, note taking, essay writing using technology, self-advocacy, understanding tactile graphs and charts, and preparation for the CAHSEE.
With the recommendation of their LEA and TVI, students may register to attend the CSB campus for a short course varying from one to six weeks depending upon the type of course offered, as well as the time of year.
For those short courses offered during the regular school year, students will live on the CSB campus and bring all of their academic coursework from their home school setting. Students will work on the topic of the short-term course and will also be provided with study hall support to maintain their coursework from home.
