Adapted Physical Education Program


The Adapted Physical Education (APE) department is committed to providing quality programs that build knowledge, movement skills, confidence, and physical literacy in a positive and safe environment. We want our students to find enjoyment in physical activity, embrace a healthy lifestyle and become empowered through activity. It is our aim to create physically literate individuals who have the knowledge and skills to sustain lifelong physical activity.

Elementary and Middle School Program

The elementary and middle school programs emphasize selected fundamental motor skills that facilitate the development of movement patterns necessary for increased physical independence and mobility as well as the participation in sports. Motor skill and patterns are developed through individual and group activities, aquatics, dance, and cooperative games. High School Program

The high school program emphasizes on the growth of skills and knowledge of team and individual sports, physical fitness, and outdoor education. Skills are developed through individual and group activities, cooperative games, and community-based field trips. Transition Program

Transition aged students participate in a community-based APE program. Through units in hiking, rock climbing, dance, and fitness training. Students improve their overall physical fitness, problem solving abilities, and confidence, while exploring the community.
