Curriculum and DevelopmentOver the past two years entire teaching faculty have worked to revise the existing school curriculum. The goal has been to integrate state content standards in Reading, Language Arts, and Mathematics with all areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC), and the state's Braille Reading and Math Standards. An energetic group of teachers have revised curricula in the areas of social skills, living skills, career development, concept development, low vision, and orientation and mobility. Staff has also created a framework for Reading and Language Arts that include state ELA standards, Braille standards, modified standards for students with additional disabilities, and academic and functional activities for each grade level Pre K-12th grade. Teachers will begin implementing the curriculum in the Fall of 2007. Additional activities being undertaken by the Curriculum Department include updating the school's professional library, and selecting a school-wide reading series. Teachers have completed training on the Wilson Reading Program this summer. These teachers will provide in-service training to the faculty during Staff Development week, 2007. Recently, Ms. June Waugh assumed a new position at CSB as a Teacher Specialist for Curriculum. She will be assisting teachers in the implementation of the new curriculum.
